For my review this week, I decided to check out the website "TeachThought: We Grow Teachers." While reading some of the many teaching articles that the website has available, I came across an article titled "The Benefits of Creating a Website for Your Classroom" written by Nik Donovic. I decided to specifically pick this article because it relates directly to what we have been working on in this class, designing our own Weebly websites! Until this year, I had never considered creating my own website for my classroom someday. I realize now that it is a great resource for both myself, parents, and students to use. The article I read was written on September 8, 2016, so it is very recent. I really enjoyed reading this article, because it brings up different uses for a classroom website that I had not even thought of before. Donovic mentions how building a classroom website is a great way to let students and parents get to know who you are. If you create an about me section on your website, this will allow students to make connections with you before school even begins. Classroom websites also allow parents to keep in contact with you, and not have to rely on the school office to receive your information. It's a way to build personal relationships with your students, without being too personal. Donovic also mentions how websites are a great place to keep important class documents, and a way to make announcements and keep a calendar handy. For instance, if you pass out a hard copy of an important document in class, and the student loses it, the parents will be able to access your website and print off a new one. Websites are also a great place to keep your class notes. Communication is so important as a classroom teacher, and websites are a great way to reach out to all of your students and make your and their lives easier. Donovic mentions how you should take some time to research what website would work best for you before you build one, and discover what is best for you. There are tons of free websites available to use to create your own website, the best thing to do is just to mess with it until you find something that you feel the most comfortable with.
