This week, I choose to read a blog post titled Moments of Empathy. I found this blog post off of a WordPress site, titled Heart of a Teacher. The blog is written by Rusul Alrubail, an education writer, consultant, and blogger. Alrubail discusses in her post about how it is so important to be empathetic as a teacher. How her favorite teacher, and all of the teachers she remembers the most, stood out to her because they showed empathy toward her, and actually cared. Alrubail states that "empathy truly does impact people in so many beautiful ways. We just need to recognize it and own it." I completely agree with this statement. Empathy is so important to show toward our students. We are not only teachers, but we are role models. As an elementary teacher, there will be days that I spend more time with my students than they will spend with their parents at home. I want my students to feel so comfortable and welcome in my classroom. I want them to feel like they are apart of a family, and that they are loved. Empathy is something that every teacher should give to their students if they don't give anything else. As Alrubail also states "When we’re empathetic, we touch more than minds, we touch hearts. And that can make a world of difference."
